That sentence has stayed with me all week.
What lengths we will go to, to achieve that goal, even to the detriment of our child!
Thank God, our heavenly Father does not respond to us in that manner.
It has been widely reported in my family, that I (as a small child) told my grandmother, "Granny, I'd never give you any trouble, if you'd only let me have my own way!"
I think that speaks to all of us, for it is a great deal of trouble disciplining our children. It is a daunting task to consistently refuse our children's desires which are not in their best interest!
We do our children and grandchildren a great disservice in allowing them rewards they have not earned; in lavishing gifts upon them, for no other reason, but that we love them. Expectations not received cause strife in families as much as a lack of thankfulness to the giver.
Humanism teaches - we deserve happiness. However, when we learn at a young age we "deserve" nothing, we do well and our life has less turmoil. It is the parents duty to prepare his/her young for the cold facts of the world in which he/she must survive. That is not easily done if we ourselves have not been taught.
The only book that teaches guidelines for parents/children is The Word of God. It is the original "how to" book and is as applicable today as when first penned. God's Word is inarguably the final say in all situations we face in our life, if our life is to be successful. When we seek God in every instance; in every situation; in every opportunity we are assured of the right answers for the right result. It's when our desires run contrary to God's will, when we get in trouble. "Our own way" is the "wrong way" if God is not in the equation!
"“In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”
Judges 21:25 KJV
Many times the Bible it speaks of people going their own way and it always led to catastrophe. There was more than once that God's Word was lost and the result was just what we have today; a lawless people.
We seem stunned that evil has become so prolific when we have turned our back on Good!
Grumbling and complaining about the shape of our society is an assault on God. He has not moved - we have! We must turn back to Him, in repentance! We have been negligent and we are reaping the benefits! We need the same zeal to pray for our young as we had during the election!
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 KJV
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 KJV
“Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.” Lamentations 5:21 KJV
“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” Revelation 2:5 KJV
Even so - MARANATHA!
