“O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” Psalms 139:1-6 KJV
This has got to be one of my all time favorite Psalms! So full of me, you, and Him!
When we can't see something or are not falling over something, then in our limited understanding, we tend to not give it consideration! Like the air we breath or gravity! We know they exist, but don't think much about them! We do the same thing with God! We know He's there, but when we are doing or saying things we know He wouldn't approve of, we don't acknowledge Him unless we get in trouble! We put Him on the back burner; pretend He's air or gravity and go headlong into our next "situation"! If it goes well we are happy with ourselves! If not, we cry out to God and ask Him to fix our mess! When we continue in sin, and our body is wracked with the consequences, we beg Him to heal us, and then often times give the credit to the doctors, and then go right back to the sin that got us in trouble in the first place! And He still loves us! I'm glad He's God and not me!
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.” Psalms 139:7-12 KJV
Yes, when we knowingly sin, or even unknowingly, we are hoping that He's not watching! Because in our heart of hearts we don't want to let Him down; just like we didn't want to disappoint our parents! The difference is He knew, before we knew, we would make the mistake we make! He is God and He knows ALL about us, and still loves us! He doesn't stop us, because making mistakes is how we grow. Falling down and getting back-up is how we are perfected! How long it takes for us to become like Him is up to us! It's our choice whether we stay in this storm forever or just a day! Pass your test and move on! Yes, there's another around the bend, however they get easier and shorter when we recognize what the purpose is and act accordingly!
In other words, humble yourself by confessing you blew it, and repent! Being truly broken before God is coming to the realization that you are not God and that you need Him to be!
You parents, who have ungrateful, wayward children; who never call on you except when they are in trouble are able to understand how God feels about us! No matter what, they are our kids, and we love them! Now, if we would stop being God to them, and let God be God they might not stay in the bad situation they are in, so long! Let then fail! Let THEM have a chance to turn to God, instead of mom or dad! Turn them over to Him! He loves them so much more than you ever could!
“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalms 139:13-16 KJV
We are His creation, and so are our children, and grandchildren!
He fashioned our days! He fashioned their days! Nothing is a surprise to Him!
He IS God!
We are not.
Even so - MARANATHA!
