Leviticus 26 - I dare say the majority of people who claim to be Christians have not read it. Mainly because most who go to church have never read their Bible. I hadn’t in all of the years I was going; before!
Leviticus is a real eye opener though many would call it “doom and gloom!” It totally describes us today and how we got here!
What impressed me the most in my reading this morning, are the following three verses:
“But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;” Leviticus 26:14 KJV
“And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me;” Leviticus 26:21a KJV
“And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;”
Leviticus 26:27 KJV
Just like today; God was speaking and the people refused to listen! And He was telling them what would happen! He’s still speaking today; we are still not listening and the consequences are still occurring!
Just like He said they would!
You will say, “That’s old Covenant!” and call me a “legalist!”
What I read/hear is a merciful, but just God, warning and then once again reaching out to a stiff necked, uncircumcised of heart people; bent on serving every god but Him!
“If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.” Leviticus 26:40-42 KJV
Why is this important especially on the eve of the day of the birth of The Savior is celebrated? What has it got to do with us?
EVERYTHING!
Once again the church refuses to listen to a merciful God who is still warning “if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me” it will not go well with you! (For specifics read the chapter!)
You see putting up a tree, decorating your house with lights and saying “Merry Christmas” is not in the list of things He wants us to do! He’s very specific in what He considers obedience to Him! Again, you are saying, “but that’s old Covenant!”
But he said the same thing in the New Covenant! It all comes down to obeying His Commandments! Jesus was born to fulfill The Law! Again God is reaching out to His rebellious creation! Jesus did fulfill, but He also kept The Law, and He is still admonishing us to do so, too!
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40 KJV
And when we don’t the consequences remain! And when you read the consequences in Leviticus and Deuteronomy, you cannot help but see our social conditions in plain sight!
God knew we would fail; that’s why Jesus came; to save us! And what’s heartbreaking is that we still refuse to “hearken” to His voice!
So, He has no choice but to do what He said He would do! He brings us to repentance! And it’s a hard thing! And if we turn from our disobedience, to Him; to obey and love Him with our whole heart; casting down our idols; then that “hard thing” becomes the “best thing” that ever happen to us!
Everyone, during the Christmas season is saying “put Christ back in Christmas!” They complain about the commercialization of the holiday, but anything the world celebrates will be off the mark!
How about we put Christ back in us?
He’s no longer the babe in the manger! He is the Living God! The Word Who came to live in You!
He IS my King and He changed my life!
But it takes giving up the world!
Are you ready to make Him LORD?
Are you ready to surrender, and become His servant?
It will be the most important decision you will ever make!
Cry out to Him in repentance while you still have time!
Even so - MARANATHA
