“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” John 5:39-40 KJV
Things haven't changed much since Jesus spoke those words to "the Jews".
Many in the church, today, search the scriptures and believe they have eternal life, yet they "will not come to Jesus!" They believe that the words that Moses wrote are no longer in effect because of the new and better covenant! However, Jesus Himself says that Moses wrote of Him and His words will not pass away. He’s is The Word made flesh! Many, like the Jews, may have "head knowledge" of their Bible, but no "heart knowledge!"
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 KJV
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 KJV
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Matthew 5:17-18 KJV
“And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.” John 5:38 KJV
What does "His word abiding in you", actually mean?
Being a Christian is more than going and carrying your Bible to church a couple of times a week. It is more than praying before meals. It is more than doing the right thing or being a good person. Being a Christian is life changing!
It's all about the heart; a change of heart!
"Will not come to Me" actually means refusing to turn away from the world and give your will to God! Coming to Jesus is a complete change in direction; it's giving up Who directs your ways; where your feet will take you! It means willingly laying down your desires for His desires! Example: giving up sleep to spend time in God's Word, when you CAN sleep in! Some call it a sacrifice, I call it the best couple of hours of my day! Yes, the flesh isn't happy, but that's the best way to get into the mindset of "dying to self!” (Romans 8:13)
God is available for us all the time, but are we available for Him? How do we know what His “wants” for our life are, if we don't communicate with Him?
Communicating with God is not telling Him what you want Him to do for you! (He IS NOT a Santa Claus who is there to provide for your every want!)
See, (unlike the world) your life is not "all about you", it's all about Him!
HE IS where you FIND life!
He speaks to us from His Word, so to get His Word to abide in you, you have to read your Bible; THE WHOLE thing; not just picking and choosing the scriptures you like, that prove your beliefs! Only in reading from cover to cover (like you would read any book) will you see the proof that Jesus is all through the Old and New Testaments! Then and only then will you see how He is the fulfilling of the prophecies! Then and only then can your eyes and ears be opened and your heart changed, by the washing of The Word! His Word cleanses; His Word hydrates! His Word quenches a thirst in our soul that nothing in this world can satisfy! He is The Word! He is LIFE more abundantly!
Could Jesus say this to you? “And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” John 5:40 KJV
Repent of your rebellion -
SURRENDER - your will!
You have not lived, until you LIVE for Jesus!
