“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
Hebrews 9:27 KJV
Never in my life have I known so many faced with death! So many friends have lost loved ones recently! It seems every day I meet someone who has been given a diagnosis of a potentially life-threatening disease! And of course I am older and am facing the end of my life also; as are my peers! I have lost both my grandparents and my parents, and many aunts and uncles that I loved! I know people who have lost all of their family and all of their friends and are the last!
We all know death is inevitable. We don't get out of this life - alive!
Most everyone I know believes in life after death! And I don't think I know a single person who doesn't believe that, when they die, they will not go to heaven!
“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God;” 1 Corinthians 15:50a KJV
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 KJV
What I don't quite understand is, if we believe in heaven why do we fight so hard to live here on earth? Why do we cling, with white knuckles, to this pitiful life?
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:”
Philippians 3:20 KJV
Are we indeed looking for our Savior?
I've come to the conclusion that our soul, knows it's spiritual condition. And if we're not ready, it holds on in hopes of us getting it right!
When we are living for today, not giving much thought to our walk with The LORD; when we are not seeking the things of God, but only fulfilling the lusts of our flesh, yet believe we are going to heaven, we are double-minded!
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” James 4:8 KJV
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Colossians 3:1-2 KJV
Jesus made a way, but we have to endure the race and overcome!
“O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 7:24-25a KJV
The way to The Father has been made for us through the atoning blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, however because of our rebellion, and our reluctance to submit we fall short! Obedience to the Word of God is what is missing our lives!
Not everyone's race is a long distance run! Some seem to be short sprints, but every race has rules and when a runner breaks the rules he is disqualified! A good runner prepares, training long hours and studying the course! He sets his heart and mind on the finish line! He longs for the prize!
Only a fool would signup for a long race with no preparation!
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1 KJV
“As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.” Proverbs 11:19 KJV
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.”
1 Corinthians 9:24 KJV
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”
Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV
“The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” 1 Corinthians 15:26 KJV
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:” John 11:25 KJV
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21 KJV
Repent while there is still time!
Even so - MARANATHA!
