“Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord. They say still unto them that despise me, The Lord hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you. For who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly. I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. Am I a God at hand, saith the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.” Jeremiah 23:16-24 KJV
Did you catch that?
“But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.”
This is the reason repentance isn’t being preached in the majority of churches these days! It’s the fulfillment of this prophecy! God has not sent them! They are false teachers, preachers and prophets! They preach a sugar-coated gospel that makes you feel good! The majority are vocational rather than called of God! Preaching, in most denominations, is a well paying gig with great benefits!
Preaching repentance causes people to leave to find another feel-good church, which reduces the income for their church. Preaching repentance can cause them to lose their job.
These preachers are not looking at eternity. They and their congregation are looking at the comforts of here and now!
Repentance is hard! Our flesh does not want to do anything that is painful. It likes comfortable and the devil knows that! He whispers in our ears, “you’re okay!” knowing we are headed straight to hell; his whole intent!
The preachers are captured! Their jobs depend on adhering to their denominations’ doctrines! Only God can open their eyes and call them out of this darkness! And their members follow them; trusting they know the truth; too lazy to seek The Truth for themselves! Following the traditions of man; granddaddy did it so it must be right!
“But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.”
Is your preacher preaching about what God considers sin?
Is he admonishing you to repent?
Is he telling you to read your Bible like a book; from cover to cover?
Every book you have ever read; you started on page one and read till the last page! Don’t we owe God the same courtesy in reading His Word? But the devil will come up with every reason for you not to: “no time” is the biggest reason! He knows if you read God’s Word it will convict you of your sin! That your eyes will be opened to the fact you need to turn from your wicked ways; i.e. doing things your way instead of God’s way!
Reread the first scripture listed here!
The rock being broke into pieces refers to the hardness of your heart! Only The Word Of God can break a hard heart! Only in reading His Word will conviction of the sin hiding in your heart occur! Sins like unbelief (which is fear and worry), bitterness, resentment, anger, judgments, unforgiveness, gossiping, grumbling & complaining and the like! These are the sins the church finds acceptable but God abhors!
Most think of the big sins as murder, stealing, and adultery. Look at this!
This is Jesus speaking: “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15 KJV
If you don’t forgive- you won’t be forgiven! Unforgiveness in your heart is sin and requires repentance! You can say “I forgive” but you also must repent of that sin! Repentance means you will turn to God’s way!
Jesus speaking to the churches: “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” Revelation 2:5 KJV
“Except you repent!” God is serious about sin and it’s past time we get serious too!
Repent while there is still time!
Even so - MARANATHA!
