“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Isaiah 5:20 KJV
Recalling a conversation with a brother Wednesday night; we were looking at a friend’s T-shirt that read “Neighborhood Hope Dealer!”
We both said how we loved the play on words and he mentioned how the word “dope” now means “good!” I mentioned how just a few years ago “sick” meant “cool!”
Later, I began to think about other examples of where “evil” has become “good” even in the church!
The occult - sticks out as number one! Witchcraft and sorcery is abundant in the home libraries of many church goers with Harry Potter leading the way!
“And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.” 2 Kings 21:6 KJV
God punished all who played with the occult in The Bible, but we wouldn’t know this unless we read our Bibles. Most also just point out that that’s OT, as their excuse; never knowing God has not changed!
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8 KJV
“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”
Revelation 9:20-21 KJV
You may reason that you just read the book or saw the movie; that you aren’t practicing witchcraft or sorcery but you are wrong in thinking that you are okay in your walk because “God knows your heart!” This is what The Word has to say about that: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9 KJV
Someday you will stand before the Judgement Seat and explain how you were entertained by a book promoting sorcery yet hadn’t read God’s Word!
You’ve been told that because you said some words at an altar that God looks at you through the blood of Jesus; that He doesn’t see your sin.
Yet in Revelation Jesus tells the churches to repent! “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” Revelation 2:5 KJV
I never read Harry Potter, but before I made Jesus my LORD and Savior I read many books on the occult/fantasy and watched many dark movies. I didn’t know better, either! However, after just one read through of my Bible I was convicted of my sins and gave up reading books and watching movies that I knew would offend my LORD. I repented of my entertaining ideas and being fascinated with subjects that were contrary to God’s Word. I have asked His forgiveness for waiting so long to read His Word.
If you believe yourself to be a “Christian” yet take pleasure and are entertained by books and/or movies depicting the occult in a “good” light;
don’t take my word for it, read your Bible and find out for yourself what God has to say about the powers of darkness and those who consider or partake of its practices!
Ask God to open your eyes and ears and to change your heart; ask Him to reveal the sin hiding there. I promise He will! I challenge you to read your Bible from start to finish as you would any other book! It does not take a year and you don’t need a plan! Just do it! You will never regret the time you spend in God’s Word!
I pray God will give you a hunger and a thirst for His Word! It will change your life!
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 KJV
